With 4 Million Downloads, Winamp Releases New Version To Celebrate

Among all the applications made available in the Android market, one of the most downloaded is the Winamp application for Android by AOL.

December was the month when the Winamp Android application made its debut. It was released in 0.9.2. version and it was able to receive so much love as it received about four (4) million downloads since its release, a number that shows how popular the app truly is.

To recapitulate, here are among the features of this app:

  • Wireless desktop sync. All you need to do is to enable your Wi-Fi and you can already sync your playlists sync with your Android phone.
  • Persistent Player Controls. Pause, Manage Play Cue, Change Tracks, Know What’s Playing quick and easy with the player’s controls.
  • Widget players (4×1 & 4×2) and Shortcuts.
  • SHOUTcast Radio which allows you to search, favourite as well as play more than 40,000 internet radio stations.
  • Now Playing where the info, the album art, artist of the song and more are revealed automatically.
  • Scrobbling with Last.fm app.
  • iTunes library import.
  • Languages supported: English, German, French, Japanese, Russian and Polish.

Because it received millions of downloads, AOL wants to give back by releasing a new version of Winamp providing the users more features to enjoy. Here are the added features of the new Winamp 1.1:

  • Language support for Simplified Chinese and Traditional Chinese
  • SHOUTcast List of Featured Stations Updated
  • More Free Music through MP3 of the Day by Spinner
  • New Releases from Full CD Listening Party
  • SHOUTcast already available on most devices powered by Android 2.1
  • New Winamp media engine powers Streaming playback
